Tirana guide

Where to stay in Tirana

Tirana is small enough to walk, loud in the best way, and still surprises people who arrive expecting very little. Here’s what we tell our own guests about where to stay, what to see and where to go next.

Find a bed in Tirana

At a glance

  • Skanderbeg Square: the centre of everything
  • Blloku: cafés, bars and nightlife
  • Most sights are walkable
  • Day trips: Krujë, Durrës, Berat
  • 7even: 20–25 minutes' walk from the square
  • Pool, bar and dorm beds from €15

Which area to stay in

Around Skanderbeg Square puts you next to the museums, the Et’hem Bey Mosque and the main boulevard. Convenient, but busy and the most expensive part of town.

Blloku is where Tirana goes out: cafés by day, bars and clubs at night. Great for nightlife, less great if you want to sleep.

A quieter street a short walk out gives you the best of both: you’re in the centre in 20 minutes, and you come back to somewhere calm. That’s where 7even is, on Rruga 3 Vëllezërit Kondi, with a pool and a bar on the terrace so you don’t have to go far for a good evening.

Things worth your time in Tirana

  • Skanderbeg Square and the National History Museum, with its huge mosaic over the entrance.
  • Bunk’Art 2, a Cold War bunker turned museum, a few minutes from the square.
  • The Pyramid of Tirana: climb the steps on the outside for a view over the city.
  • Pazari i Ri (the New Bazaar) for fruit, raki, cheese and lunch.
  • The Grand Park and Artificial Lake for a long walk or a run.
  • Dajti Ekspres, the cable car up Mount Dajti, for the best view of Tirana and the mountains.

Easy day trips

Every room at 7even is named after an Albanian city, and most guests leave with at least one on their list. The easiest from Tirana:

  • Krujë: the castle and the old bazaar, close enough for half a day.
  • Durrës: the beach and the Roman amphitheatre on the coast.
  • Berat: the “city of a thousand windows”, about two hours away and worth a full day.

Ask at reception and we’ll tell you which bus to take.
